End of an era

Today I drove past a house that I have passed many times going right back to my youth. In the front garden is a small privet hedge that has been lovingly kept over the years in a sort of spiral shape. It has been fondly known to myself and others as 'The curly wurly tree' and it has also lived on in my children, whenever we drive past they shout 'Hey theres the curly wurly tree'.

Today however, I noticed that there was a skip outside the house and builders were emptying in out and preparing for construction work.

The house has seemed quite unkempt for sometime indicating that the person/s living there were very elderly. I can only presume that they have since passed away. Hence I have decided to take a photograph of said tree as they may cut it down and in the act of doing so will wrench great memories from me.

I remember going to swimming lessons on the school bus every Thursday whilst at primary school. I would probably have been around the age of 8-9, we always pointed out 'The curly wurly tree' and I remember singing the latest pop chart entry 'Wig wam bam' with my friends sitting upstairs on the bus......... gosh that really takes me back, I wonder if other school friends remember it with such fondness?

This has prompted me to do a sort of time capsule post around once a month. I have decided to make a draft of things which have 'stuck out' to me in the news and locally and then add them all together at the end of each month.
